Spiritual connection and perspective
Navigating the “real” world while the Universe has your back.
These musings, as I’ve decided to term them, have a single purpose and I hope to keep to this purpose for the lifetime of this journey with you:
To create simplicity and applicability to spiritual concepts so they no longer feel like a rabbit hole.
You are a spiritual being having this human experience.
In truth, nothing should be simpler than being true to your deepest nature.
However, as we’ve started to explore, beliefs, social programming, hurt and a range of human experiences can often distract us from that inner perspective.
The fray of the jungle can feel far more important than climbing up the mountain to get away from it all.
However, I can't stress enough that when you choose to practice and develop your own spiritual perspective, when you move from being only concerned about your physical form and the life that’s in front of you, there’s a sense of widening, opening and freedom loving expansion that gives a serious sense of relief.
When you choose spiritual perspective, and connection over just functioning… well it’s like turning over and floating on your back instead of constantly swimming upstream.
A couple of weeks, I offered tools for nervous system regulation. I also suggested that it was important to put these in place first and foremost as the human brain, which is part of the human body, tends to lash out when put in situations it struggles to understand or trust.
Therefore, if you’ve not read that post, I highly recommend you do so now.
Next, if you have any inherited belief systems around spirit, including thoughts around unworthiness, or feeling like pursuing spiritual connection is a sin or offensive in some way then… well let’s deal with that right now.
I want you to put your hand on your heart as you read this and take 5 deep breaths.
Are you ready?
Go.
Then whisper to yourself: I am love and I am loved.
Whether you believe that you are made by God, or whether you know yourself as a drop of divinity in the ocean of life, even if you believe that you are part of the earth, as part of creation you can not be unworthy.
Your very essence is life itself.
We will be diving into this more over the course of these musings so stay tuned. I’ve been unraveling doctrine from faith for most of my life so have a lot to say about it!
So, with all of that said, what is spiritual connection, why does nervous system regulation matter in regards to it and how does it transform your life, offering you the tools to navigate it?
Spirit (Source, God, Life Energy, The Universe.) is like electricity that flows through the walls.
It is everywhere, it is effortless and it is powerful. It is also readily accessible to you.
Now, most of the time, life is so distracting and the message that you have to do everything on your own is loud and overwhelming. You’ve been taught that it has to be hard, that you have to strive to be better, to do better: yet, you have spiritual energy flowing around you at all times.
You just have to plug in to access it.
So, how do you plug in?
Well, if you did the 5 breaths while focusing on your heart and then acknowledged that you are Love and loved…
You plugged in.
You might have quickly unplugged, but practice that and you will create a shift.
You can ground yourself (like we discussed in nervous system regulation) but rather than just focusing on feeling settled and safe in your body, set the intention that you are plugging in to something bigger than yourself: to the Universe itself.
Or… try this:
Repeat this simple phrase:
I open to Love.
I receive Love.
I give thanks with Love
I Connect with Love.
What is the field of Spirit, the Universe or God, than the deepest Love?
Why does it have to be hard to create a connection with what you are at your essence?
Spiritual connection can bring up a lot for a person, however it is truly connecting to your deepest nature.
You are a life infused being, that life force is spiritual energy. That spiritual energy is what cultures and individuals have defined differently across the ages, but at its core essence is love.
And when you connect to the field of love, within you and around you, you will start to train your own mind and heart to be open to something more than the natterings offered in “real life”.
You will start to enhance your intuition as well as have a deeper understanding of what life is really about. You will be able to pass over your worries to that love force and receive new information and guidance.
If your head is in a twist over this, here’s something further to consider:
What if you shift the attention from figuring out what spiritual connection is intellectually and instead, let your heart and sense of awe tell you.
Years ago I remember taking a road trip with my father. A self declared atheist, my dad often bumped up against my spiritual meanderings.
However, as we drove through the rocky mountains, his favorite place in the world, I watched his face light up with a sense of awe and wonder.
He was so moved that I couldn’t help but mention that it seemed like a spiritual experience.
I like to think that the moment taught both of us that often we don’t need to have the words that describe or contain a spiritual connection.
Rather, by acknowledging that deep sense of awe, relief and flow, and taking steps to create that connection each day…
you plug in to a spiritual grid that transforms your moment, your perspective and connects you to a greater awareness of life itself.
I’d love to know what creates spiritual connection for you?
Meanwhile, if you are curious about how the Power of Awe can help you trancend the need to intellectually understand spiritual connection, and instead experience it, then I highly recommend checking out this episode of my podcast, Showing Up Whole!
